Ever since winning the Game of Show Award at E3, Maxis' Spore is easily one of the most anticipated PC titles.

Although the title isn't expected to arrive until 2007, reports were rampant of Electronic Arts' job openings towards developing a handheld version of the simulation game. The latter was confirmed of Spore releasing on handheld via a GDC conference session on Wednesday. Created by Will Wright, one of the PC game's most intriguing features include discovering other evolutionized worlds and galaxies.

On Wednesday night, AMN's very own Ray Almeda sat down with the legendary game designer to discuss the details on Spore for handhelds. When asked whether or not Spore would be coming to the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP, Wright replied with a "Yes... definitely."

According to Wright, Spore is intended to release for multiple handheld systems, including the Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, and several mobile-phone devices. Which phones might be compatible with the game have yet to be determined, but Wright emphasized that "the mobile [cell-phone] version would be the most intriguing and focused upon."

The news confirms Spore's expansion into numberous handheld libraries, with the possibility of online interaction certainly valid. A confirmation for handhelds almost certainly stimulates a chance that Spore might make it onto a gaming console someday, with reports suggesting that Will Wright himself has expressed interest in the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Revolution.

Like the PC title itself, the handheld projects are not expected to arrive until 2007.

More as it breaks.
