"Ambition" and "Nintendo DS" aren't two phrases you'd expect to hear in the same sentence -- at least, not as far as game development goes. Sure, the touch screen allows for innovation, but sublime character models, large environments, and even 3D are best left to the monolithic consoles currently attached to your television. Last year, however, Renegade Kid turned a few heads with their horror-adventure, Dementium: The Ward. It was a game so stunning, even the PSP would've been proud to house it. Unfortunately, Dementium flew mostly under the radar, and gamers searching for an on-the-go scare had to settle for looking at road kill.
But now, Renegade Kid hopes to take a step into the limelight. How? By making Moon even more ambitious than Dementium.
Renegade Kid co-owner Jools Watsham confirmed as much in saying, "We're being much more ambitious with the environments, particle effects, enemies and cinematic cut-scenes." Even though we pushed the DS with Dementium, we were still being slightly cautious due to our time frame and growing experience with the platform. This time around with Moon, we are being a little less cautious while still being expressive and ambitious."
With Renegade Kid's focus on the DS and their newfound experience in the form of Dementium, they may very well have what it takes to create a top-tier DS title. Between mind-blowing (for the DS) graphics, a slick, new checkpoint-based save system, and a sure-to-be fascinating plot, Moon has a good shot at rocking our world.
