ComputerAndVideogames today revealed what can be called the first "real" trailer for Capcom's recently revealed Okamiden – the DS follow up to Okami. The trailer shows a surprising similarity to the original game despite the hardware.
The first footage of Okamiden was a mere four seconds that at first was shown with no sound. This new one-minute trailer comes with the full range of music and sound effects for the game and clearly shows several characters like newcomer Kuninushi.
The trailer also shows several different areas of Okamiden's gameplay. The paintbrush mechanic and the combat both seem very similar to the original Okami. Also shown however is the paintbrush being used to indirectly control Kuninushi as detailed in the original Famitsu reveal of the game.
One subtle but noticeable detail is the camera, which compared to the PS2 game had been drawn back a bit. This is probably to make the DS version control better on the DS's interface and to make up for the graphics, which actually don't seem to suffer that much.
In the few close-up shots it is definitely apparent that the characters and other objects in Okamiden are less detailed than in the PS2 game. The textures and style of cel shading from the PS2 however seem to have been almost perfectly transplanted to the DS.
Okamiden is set to release in Japan sometime in 2010 with no North American date yet spoken of.
