Story Revealed for The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (SPOILERS)
November 6, 2009 | 2:09 PM PST

by: Eric Jones

While the full details behind The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks were finally blown out last night, some story segments were still left a mystery.

Well, thanks to some new details (compiled by GoNintendo) we have a full idea of what to expect in the latest installment of one of Nintendo's premiere franchises. Since there's spoilers aplenty, all is posted after the cut, so beware.

- Zelda dies within the first hour of the game
- Link can still see the 'spirit' of Zelda after her death
- Spirit Tracks picks up where Phantom Hourglass leaves off, with the pirates heading to new Hyrule...except it's 100 years later
- the inhabitants of Hyrule deal with an evil power called the Demon King
- during the 100 years that passed, an epic battle between the spirits of the land and the Demon King happened. The spirits managed to subdue the evil power, chained him down underground, and these chains were stretched across Hyrule. The chains became the Spirit Tracks, which the towsfolk used as railway transportation.
- Link starts out on a trip to Zelda's castle to be bestowed with a Royal Engineer job title
- Zelda gives you your title, as well as a secret note that warns you of Chancellor Cole, someone she wants to discuss through a secret meeting.
- Zelda needs your help to sneak out of the castle and discuss Cole, as well as the disappearing Spirit Tracks
- Link obtains his green tunic to better blend in with the castle staff, and then you control both Link and Zelda to sneak them out of the castle
- once you escape the castle, you meet Master Engineer Alfonzo, the man that trained Link
- Alfonzo used to be involved with the Hyrulian army, but left for reasons unknown
- As you ride the train to head to the Spirit Tower, Chancellor Cole hunts you down as the Spirit Tracks vanish from underneath your train. This is where he takes out Alfonzo, you...and Zelda. Zelda receives the worst attack of all
- Cole takes away the body of Zelda, as her spirit stays behind
- Link wakes up in Hyrule castle with Zelda's spirit. Zelda soon learns that she is dead, but Link is the only one who can see her.
- Zelda leads you to your sword, gives you some training, and then you head to the Spirit Tower
- Cole is using Zelda's body to bring the Demon King back to life
- your mission is to restore the Spirit Tracks by ascending the Spirit Tower and secure the Stone Maps.
- A sage is holding the base of the tower together, as the rest of the floors are falling apart
- You first need to get the Tears of Light, which allow you to hit Phantoms and get Zelda's spirit inside
- you no longer have to replay areas of dungeons like in Phantom Hourglass. The Spirit Tower allows you to use stairs to bypass previously completely floors
- double-tap the screen corners to roll
